IMAP settings for Android Phones

General steps for using IMAP on an Android Phone

These settings are generalized and may not be the same for all android phones.  When in doubt, contact your provider for steps that may be more specific to your phone/device.

1.  From the Home screen, tap the Application button and then tap the Email icon.

2.  If this is the first email account you have set up, you will see an email setup screen and will need to tap the Next button.  If you have set up mail accounts previously, you will need to press the Menu button, then tap Accounts, press the Menu button and tap Add account.

3.  Enter your entire email address (for example myname@mydomain.com) and in the second box enter the password that you set up for your email account.

4.  Tap the Manual setup botton and then tap the IMAP button.  Enter the following details in the fields provided
  • Username - Enter the entire e-mail address
  • Password - Enter the password you set up
  • IMAP server - Enter the secure server name.  This can be found in cPanel where you created your e-mail account
  • Port - Enter the secure port number 993
  • Security type - SSL

5. Tap the Next button, which should connect your device to the internet to check the settings you've entered.

6.  On the Outgoing server settings screen, enter the following details

  • SMTP server - Enter the server name - this will be the same as you used in the Incoming settings
  • Port - Enter the secure port number of 465
  • Security type - SSL

7. Tap the Require Sign-in check box and then tap the next button.  This should prompt the device to connect to the internet and check your settings

8.  You can make changes to personalize your settings on the Account Options screen

9.  Finally, Tap the Next button.  On the Set up email screen, enter your name in the Type your name field.  This is what recipients will see in the from field when you send them email messages.  Tap the Done button.
